Here we will review the steps involved in fixing the phpMyAdmin error "Cannot start session without errors, please check errors given in your PHP and/or webserver log file and configure your PHP installation properly."

First, try a different browser or accessing from a different computer

For example, if you are using Internet Explorer, try accessing phpMyAdmin using Firefox.

If phpMyAdmin works and the error does not occur on a different computer, the problem likely lies on the first computer. If the browser crashed or did not close gracefully while using phpMyAdmin previously, it may have corrupted its cookie. Try deleting the cookies associated with the domain name you using to access phpMyAdmin.

Did phpMyAdmin work Previously?

If phpMyAdmin was working previously, and now it does not work, then something got changed that is now making it not work. Sometimes phpMyAdmin will throw the error Cannot start session without errors, please check errors given in your PHP and/or webserver log file and configure your PHP installation properly" if the file system permissions do not allow access to all the required directories.

Check the Web Server Error Log for Details

Where the error log is located depends on the Web server in use. Also PHP.INI has settings for an error log location. If error logging is not enabled, then the error will not appear in the error log. Setting error reporting to on and the error level to EALL in PHP.INI may then display the error messages on the screen. Typically error reporting is left sent to a log since it is not recommended to display errors in PHP on a production site since it might reveal useful information to someone attacking the site.
